The Subliminal Projects is exhibiting the artworks of Ryan McGinness ~ Sponsorship Redux ~ on Saturday, June 11 with an opening reception from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. The Sponsorship Redux will be on view until Saturday, July 09.

The Sponsorship Redux project is a representation of Year 2003’s Sponsorship project. In 2003, Ryan McGinness produced an exhibition at BLK/MRKT Gallery in Los Angeles [California] that consisted of nothing more than corporate sponsors’ logos sized on the gallery walls according to their level of sponsorship for the exhibition. Mr. McGinness explains that “My hope was that a content-deprived exhibition comprised of only sponsorship logos would create enough pause for us to consider both the fine art of corporate sponsorship and the corporate sponsorship of fine art.”

The exact same concept drives this incarnation, with the addition of a new twist. McGinness will deconstruct the corporate sponsors’ logos and use these parts as the compositional ingredients in a series of three paintings and two print editions.

Gallerist Amanda Fairey hosts and curates part of Subliminal Projects exhibitions which features artists Ryan McGinness, Hunter Gatherer, David Ellis, Doze Green, Aesthetic Apparatus, Space Invader, Jim Houser and Andrew Jeffery Wright. In 2003, the Subliminal Projects gallery was officially opened in the Los Angeles offices of Studio Number One. The scope of the gallery remained true to its roots while embracing new forms of graphic art, illustration, photography and time-based media.
