Michelle Obama Humps Time

After being knighted as one of Time‘s 100 Influential People, our first lady Michelle Obama is annotated as a cover girl and given an examination under The Meaning of Michelle story. Here are snippets from the interviews:

On Michelle Obama’s style: You’ve got to make choices that make sense for you … because there’s always going to be somebody who’ll think you should do something differently. So you might as well start with what you like, and what you care about, what your passions are, what makes sense. That’s my message to women, if anything, over the course of this, is, find your space. Find your spot. Wear what you love. Choose the careers that may have meaning to you, because there’s always somebody who will say, I wouldn’t have worn that color, or why didn’t you work at that job.”

On advices she received from former first ladies: The most unexpected and uniform advice that I got was, Go to Camp David, early and often. It’s one place you can go where you feel some level of freedom and an ability to breathe.

On being a role model: There are thousands of Michelle and Barack Obamas all over this nation.

Michelle Obama Humps "O" Magazine

The people’s First Lady – Michelle Obama graces the cover and pages of O: The Oprah Magazine making Obama the first to share the cover with Oprah since it launched 9 years ago. O: The Oprah Magazine arrives in subscribers’ mailbox this weekend and hits newsstands on Tuesday, March 17.

O, The Oprah Magazine / Associated Press

In an Oprah Winfrey release statement, Say what you will about books — people do judge a magazine by its cover, which is why it’s important to me to keep the cover of this one looking fresh. And right now nothing – and I mean nothing – is fresher than the family that moved into the White House in January, sparking a national spirit of renewal the likes of which I’ve never seen. And here excerpts from Michelle Obama interview –

On First Lady Obama’s 1st weekend @ the White House after the inauguration: Well, we still had family here, so it was almost like a wedding. A huge, very complicated wedding. The last visitors didn’t leave until Sunday. And then the first Monday was kind of weird. You know: Now we live here, and Barack is getting up and going to work, and it’s just us. This is our home now.

On Michelle’s decorating philosophy: It will reflect our family. I want comfortable sofas, I want art that reflects contemporary and traditional, I want to bring in new American artisans, and you’ve got to be able to make a fort with the sofa pillows! Everything must be fort-worthy.

On Mrs. Obama’s vision for the White House: It’s a beautiful home. When you go out and come back, especially at night, with all the white lights on–it’s just beautiful. We feel privileged, and we feel a responsibility to make it feel like the people’s house. We have the good fortune of being able to sleep here, but this house belongs to America.

On what Michelle knows for sure: I know that all I can do is be the best me that I can. And live life with some gusto. Giving back is a big part of that. How am I going to share this experience with the American people? I’m always thinking about that.

On keeping up with the First Family’s friends: That’s the thing about being the First Lady: You try to catch your friends up on what’s happening in your life, and they’re like, ‘We know – we read it in the paper’.

On how the first daughters – Malia & Sasha – now know dad’s home: Once someone on my staff e-mailed to tell me that the president was on his way. But you could already hear the helicopter, so it was like, well, no kidding. The girls don’t move. I’m like, ‘You want to see Daddy landing in the helicopter?’ ‘No, that’s okay. We already saw it.’

Michelle Obama Humps People

The beautiful First Lady Michelle Obama graces the cover and pages of People magazine with a new haircut in designer Tracey Reese lace gown, to discuss her marriage, the family dog and their life in the White House. And here are excerpts from the exclusive interview:

On her 16 year old marriage: We haven’t had that time together for [years], so that explains a lot why we all feel so good in this space. I don’t want anybody to think it’s that easy. It works because we really work at it. … We have a strong marriage, but it’s not perfect.

On the First Dog – Portuguese Water Dod’s April arrival – : Oh, the names are really bad. You listen and you go – like, I think, Frank was one of them. Frank! Moose was another one of them. Moose. I said, well, what if the dog isn’t a moose? Moose. I’m like, no, come on, let’s work with the names a little bit.
