The $80 million budget film co-stars Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Fergie, Ricky Tognazzi, Giuseppe Cederna, Valerio Mastandrea and Martina Stella. The film is based on the Tony award winning musical Nine from a book by Arthur Kopit with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston.
