The Secret Life Of Bees is set in South Carolina in 1964, the tale of Lily Owens, a 14-year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father, Lily flees with Rosaleen, her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters, Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna.

Saturday Night Live pulled no punches during their funny send-up of Vice-Presidential debate between Tina Fey as Governor Sarah Palin, Jason Sudeikis as Senator Joe Biden and Academy award nominee Queen Latifah as debate moderator and PBS journalist Gwen Ifill.

Queen Latifah’s parody Gwen Ifill says “Due to the historically low expectations for Gov. Palin, were she simply to do an adequate job tonight, at no point cry, faint, run out of the building or vomit, you should consider the debate a tie”.

Secret Life of Bees @ Toronto International Film Festival

The 2008 Toronto International Film Festival announced four films – Secret Life of Bees, RockNrolla, Religulous Larry Charles, & The Duchess – of their premiere line-ups. The fall festival runs from September 4 to 13.
