Robert Pattinson Humps GQ

Robert Pattinson graces the April 2009 cover and pages of GQ to promote his Little Ashes film – directed by Paul Morrison – and opens up about his Twilight audition. Pattinson says I took half a Valium and then went into this thing—and all this stuff happened. It was the first time I’ve ever taken Valium. A quarter. A quarter of a Valium. I tried to do it for another audition, and it just completely backfired—I was passing out.

On watching his performance on Twilight. He watched the first ten minutes @ the America premiere w/ mom, and then: I went out and sat in the car, having a full-blown panic attack.”

On the future: I’m not massively concerned about doing lots of acting jobs. If it all just went, right now, I’d be like, ‘All right. I don’t really care.’ That’s probably a stupid thing to say. But I don’t, really.

On Little Ashes – as young artist Salvador Dali: I thought I’d never get another acting job again. So I was like, ‘Yeah—why not try to do something weird?’ There’s all these gay sex scenes. And y’know, I haven’t even done a sex scene with a girl, in my whole career… And here I am, with Javier [Beltrán], who plays Lorca, doing an extremely hard-core sex scene, where I have a nervous breakdown afterward. And because we’re both straight, what we were doing seemed kind of ridiculous.

On rumored girlfriend – Annelyse: There’s literally not a single [true] story that could be written about me. There’s this thing about my supposed girlfriend. There’s this one girl who’s consistently mentioned. It’s like, ‘He’s dating this Brazilian model.’ … What’s her name—-Annelyse. I’ve never met her.

On Camila Belle and pictures of him walking with her: That’s the extent of it. I mean, Camilla’s the nicest—she’s a saint. I don’t see people. I don’t even have people’s phone numbers. I almost don’t want to have a girlfriend, in this environment.

On romantically linked to Ms. Camilla: That’s the funniest [rumor]. No. I mean, yeah, yeah, I’m friends with Camilla… It’s funny, though, because I met her at her place the other day, and there’s a security gate, and even the security woman—I guess she knows that Camilla lives there, and she was like, ‘Oooh!’ …I mean, Camilla’s the nicest—she’s a saint. And it’s funny that she’s being portrayed as this home wrecker. She’s literally the most unlikely person to be a home wrecker. It’s just ridiculous.

On any last comments – progued by interviewer: Okay, (deep breath) I f***ed Joe Jonas. I love him.

Robert Pattinson @ Little Ashes – Trailer

Twilight actor Robert Pattinson portrays Salvador Dali in director Paul Morrison’s Little Ashes, in 1922 Madrid, bohemian lifestyles are flourishing – from the arrival of jazz music to the en vogue teachings of Sigmund Freud. As the tale opens, Salvador Dali is only 18, but his dreams of artistic glory lie poised in front of him; his outré personality and social attitudes soon draw the full-fledged attention of two from the in-crowd – Lorca and Buñuel.

For a temporary period, the three become the most “in” clique in all of Spain and find themselves virtually defining the currents of modernism; then Buñuel hearkens off to Paris, however, and Salvador and Federico are thrust together even closer than before – so close that one night, their relations suddenly cross the line from platonic friendship to something far more intimate.

The $3,400,000 Little Ashes hits theaters on March 27. Robert Thomas-Pattinson is repped by Stephanie Ritz @ Endeavor and manager Nicholas Frenkel @ 3 Arts Entertainment. Paul Morrison is repped by Lucy Stille @ Paradigm.

The Film Twilight Touches A Nerve

If one wants to know what a girl’s idea of romance is, one need look no further than Twilight, based on a book by Stephenie Meyer. As a great article by Caitlin Flanagan suggests, Twilight awakens a secret female longing long buried by contemporary pop culture. That secret female longing? True love. What was it buried by? Shopping and sex.

Think about it: what’s been king (or queen, rather) as far as female entertainment goes? Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada. As for upcoming releases, Bride Wars features two women fighting over a wedding day neither consulted with their fiancés, and Confessions of a Shopaholic features a heroine hammering into a block of ice to get a credit card. This fare taps into the desires of womankind, but ignores the main one: the love of a man. The themes are similar: men come and go, but friends and shoes are forever.

Little / Brown Books for Young Readers

Twilight throws all that out the window to create the ideal romance, one in which the male must show as much, if not more, restraint than the girl. After all, he has to keep himself from devouring her. And watching that struggle on screen is harrowing. One sees what a woman must go through when faced with undeniable attraction, but must hold back for fear of losing herself and her reputation.

Even the supposed weaknesses in the film weren’t all that bad for a reason I’ll get into in a little bit. The vampire baseball scene was odd, but not entirely lame.

Okay, I will now get into what surprised me most about the flick: it was funny. The trailer painted the movie as a thriller/horror/romance, but, not unlike M. Night Shyamalan’s films, the comedy is hidden from the populace until one gets in the seat and the lights go out. The Awakening was hilarious, for example.

So if you’re expecting heavy-handed drama, you’ll get that, but you’ll also laugh a bit more at vampires than you normally would.
