the valtari mystery film experiment

Sigur Rós have given a dozen film makers the same modest budget and asked them to create whatever comes into their head when they listen to songs from the band’s new album valtari. the idea is to bypass the usual artistic approval process and allow people utmost creative freedom. among the filmmakers are ramin bahrani, alma har’el and john cameron mitchell.

“we never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. we don’t want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it. with the films, we have literally no idea what the directors are going to come back with. none of them know what the others are doing, so hopefully it could be interesting.”

Shia LaBeouf Humps GQ

Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps actor Shia LaBeouf graces the cover and pages of GQ April 2010 issue – shot by Nathaniel Goldberg – to promote Oliver Stone’s follow-up to Wall Street. Shia LaBeouf dives into his craft and relationships.

Nathaniel Goldberg

On research at the Wall Street trading floors: I thought my life was pretty wild. I’m Richie Rich. I land in New York, secretly thinking I’m like the coolest guy in the world. I’ve been on the cover of GQ! But then I met these guys, and it’s humbling. It’s the most sex-drugs-and-rock-‘n’-roll atmosphere that exists on the planet. I was hanging out with some wild human beings.

Nathaniel Goldberg

On co-star Carey Mulligan: I never really had anything in my life that was off-limits. But with this, just out of respect, I just don’t want to fuck around. She’s an unbelievably thought-provoking actress, the most talented actress I’ve ever met in my life, by leaps and bounds. Neither one of us are fame whores. It works out. It’s not like we’re the premiere couple; we’re not the red-carpet king and queen.

Nathaniel Goldberg

On his car crash: I’d be watching the news, and they’d play my car crash, and every once in a while Kim Kardashian’s sister would jump on TV and preach to me from the red carpet about how to live my fucking life. And I’m so upset, man. I’m so angry. Because this accident was not caused by me. I got hit. I had a green. This fucker ran a red light. And he flipped my truck, and he shoveled it on my hand. And my fingers are in the street… they’re off, they’re under the truck door, man. This is fake, dude. This is hip bone and the skin that was left over…

Shia LaBeouf Humps Details

Indy 4 star Shia LaBeouf delves into his personal life with Details magazine for his September 2008 cover issue, which hits newsstand on Monday, August 5. Here’s an excerpt from the foreshadowing interview:

On ending one of his and his father’s bonding rituals: We would drink together and smoke together, and it’s just a bad deal. It’s not something that is conducive to being a role model—no iconic actors that I know of have problems like that. And I don’t know how to do it like a gentleman. I don’t know how to have one drink.

Shia LaBeouf Humps GQ

Shia LaBeouf is really coming along as a credible actor, I finally saw Transformers and Disturbia on cable and he’s actually witty and good in them. Anyways, Shia LaBeouf whores himself out for GQ to sell Indiana Jones out May 22.

On the projects that he chooses: The [Ryan] Goslings of the world are incredible to watch, he says. But they make character pieces. It’s not that I’m not interested in making those, it’s just that I really enjoy watching movies like the ones I’m making, where there’s a lot happening—big-ensemble, orchestral types of movies and not just a solo act.

On his parents: They don’t work. I take care of them, and they get to create art for the rest of their days.
