Saturday Night Live! alumni and 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan has the last laugh as his titular memoir – I Am The New Black – hits bookstores on Tuesday, October 20, while posing inside the pages of GQ November Issue. Tracy Morgan opens up to GQ senior editor Dan Fierman and boogie clown-down for pixer Terry Richardson. Enjoy some blog snippets and humorous tidbits below –
One can definitely see the roots of your comedy in your dad. In the book, you describe him pointing to the bleachers at your high school and telling you not just that you were conceived under the bleachers but that it was doggy style and he “gave it to her good.” That’s just nuts. Yeah, man, that was my dad. Man, he was honest. He reminds me a lot of Richard Pryor. He never lied to me about sex. But I was a kid, you know—I was 12 years old! I was like, What are you telling me this for?
Can we talk about Lorne Michaels for a second? In the book, you write, “Every Jewish man has to love one…” …nigger in their life.” Yeah. Lorne is my Cus D’Amato. Lorne helped build my confidence up, being in front of an all-white audience and all that. And he told me when he hired me for Saturday Night Live: You’re not here because you’re black; you’re here because you’re funny!
Tracy Morgan is repped by Tracey Jacobs and Kevin Volchok @ United Talent Agency, attorney Ken Richman @ Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren & Richman [LLP], manager Richard Abate, David Becky and David Miner @ 3 Arts Entertainment.
This GQ November Issue is on newsstands now, and it’s the one with Mad Men actress January Jones on the cover.

Tracy Morgan spoofs his 30 Rock-wife Sherri Shepherd on Saturday Night Live (SNL). Morgan hosted the SNL and Kelly Clarkson was the musical guest.
The View ladies saw the SNL clip and had this to say: Sherri’s comment: Tracy Morgan did a great job. It was funny; and Whoopi Goldberg’s comment: My man (Kenan Thompson) looks exactly like me!”
